Annual “WATTS” Review Process

According to Wisconsin Statute 55.18, an annual “WATTS” review needs to be performed to any individual who is under protective placement. The annual review process includes the following:

  1. An annual report from Dane County Department of Services or the individual’s Support Broker or Case Manager if she has one;
  2. A lawyer (guardian ad litem) is appointed to the placed individual; and
  3. The guardian.

The annual report needs to include a visit to the individual. The report covers the physical, mental and social condition of the individual and the appropriateness of the placement. A copy of the annual report is sent to the guardian, the individual being reviewed, the individual’s agent under a power of attorney for health care if different from the guardian, the guardian ad litem and the probate court.
